Lip Augmentation
The lips are one of our most prominent facial features and many believe they define
beauty. In fact, a number of celebrities are renowned for their full, plump lips.
With the advent of new filler substances and quick procedures with minimal downtime,
lip enhancement has gained in popularity. Lip augmentation creates fuller, plumper
lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. The treatment aims to replace that
which age has taken away, and restores the consistancy of the lips of youth. This

namely hyaluronic acid gels. A natural component of skin, hyaluronic acid gels holds
the collagen and elastin of the skin together. When injected into the skin, hyaluronic
acid gels being naturally 'hydrophillic', attract and bind to water. This provides
a gentle increase in volume to plump lips and fill larger folds of skin around the
mouth. Results can last from six to eight months, or even longer. The desired results

One or two phials are usually sufficient to produce the desired result, which may
be temporary depending on the material used. Injections may need to be repeated
periodically. Proper placement of the injected material is important but our experienced

These temporary procedures can be appealing to patients who want to experiment with
a fuller-lipped look, but not necessarily commit to it.
Hyaluronic acid gel does not pose an allergy risk, and some contain an anesthetic,
so the injections are not very painful. In addition, the doctors at TheSmartSkinClinic
will use a topical anesthesic (painkiller applied directly to the lips) as well
as a local painless block, before the procedure. This product can produce temporary
inflammation, swelling and redness, particularly in the lip area. However recovery
is fast and one can return immediately to normal activities.
